And it has a Start MENU

Kinja'd!!!

I've been playing around with it in a VM since yesterday afternoon and I like it. I'm going to be installing it on a (non-touch) laptop later today and see how it is as a daily driver.

I liked the Start Screen and being able to see snippets of information without having to open applications. But I also missed the familiar feel of a Start Menu. After ~20 years of doing the same thing, old habits die hard.

The new eye-candy is great, nothing too outlandish. Multiple desktops add great functionality. I could see myself using this on my laptop where I don't have multiple monitors.

All-in-all, I think Windows 10, Win10, W10, WX, whatever they decide to formally call it, will be a great way to bounce back into the enterprise world.

The company I work for just completed our transition from XP to 7 in JANUARY. I doubt we'll be doing any sort platform jump anytime soon, but for companies who are looking for an upgrade path, this might be it.

Anybody else taking Win10 for a test drive?

I have it running in a VM, though I'm itching to try it on a full install! I "convinced" (told) the wife I'd be partitioning her system and dual-booting her lappy toppy

I actually like the start screen in Windows 8, and especially in 8.1 so Menu or Screen really makes no difference to me.

The biggest difference though? The ability to run Metro Apps on the desktop. That is monumentally useful.

Definitely going to be testing it once I get to the weekend and can take the time to go play around in it.

The start menu was designed so that common tasks could be done in as few clicks as possible. The idea behind the Metro interface was that because everyone is using touch screens, it made that sort of linear thinking obsolete. Except that isn't true at all, because no one wants to sit there pawing at their computer like a neanderthal. This start screen + Panel system looks like the stuff of dreams to me.

Apparently, a lot of source code used in many, many applications refers to Win 95 and 98 simply as Win 9. Calling this one Win 9 might have caused a lot of unforeseen problems.

Are the multiple desktops similar in function to the multiple workspaces on Ubuntu or other Linux releases?

Extremely similar.
